How do I reinstate my license after being convicted of a DUI for a first time?
Those who are convicted of DUI for a first time can apply for a hardship license in the county they live in before the expiration of their revocation period. It may be required for an individual to complete treatment and/or DUI school before applying. If DUI school or treatment is required, failure to complete these requirements may result in cancellation of your driver license. In addition, it is mandatory to take an examination regardless if the reinstatement is for a hardship license or a full license. There will be a charge of $115 administrative fee and $60 reinstatement fee.

How do I reinstate my license after a 2nd DUI charge?
If an individual receives a second DUI conviction in more than 5 years, then a revocation period of 180 days to 1 year will be applied. During this period, a person will not be allowed to apply for a hardship license. The revocation period must be served first before requesting for a reinstatement of driver license. A second DUI conviction within a 5 year period will result in a 5 year revocation period. A person can apply for a hardship license if he or she has completed one year of their revocation period. In addition, it is mandatory to take an examination regardless if the reinstatement is for a hardship license or a full license. Those who are convicted of vehicular homicide while being intoxicated will have a permanent revocation. A person must wait at least 5 years before being allow to apply for a hardship license. Individuals must complete required treatment and DUI education if referred and have a positive recommendation from the Special Supervision Services Program to be eligible for a hardship license. If approved, there will be a charge of $115 administrative fee and $60 reinstatement fee.

How do I reinstate my license after having it suspended for refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test?
A license will be suspended for one year for the first offense and 18 months for any consecutive offenses. A 10 day permit is be issued on the day of the arrest and afterwards a person must serve 90 days of their suspension before being allowed to apply for a hardship license for the first offense. A hardship license will not be permitted for those who refuse to submit to a breath or urine test two or more times. Furthermore, one must show proof of completion of approved DUI education.

What happens if I am convicted of DUI while operating a commercial vehicle?
If convicted of driving under the influence while operating a commercial vehicle, a person will not be able to drive a commercial motor vehicle for one year and will not be able to apply for a hardship license until after one full year later. If a person was transporting hazardous material at the time, then he or she will not be allowed to operate a commercial vehicle for three years.
